These were the days of the mini skirt, blue jeans and white bobby sox and the latest craze, besides the Beatles, was the new skate board.

Lyndon Johnson was elected President.

Communist China exploded its first atomic bomb.

The Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Minnesota Twins in the World Series.

Krushchev fell from power in Russia.

The Warren Report on President Kennedy's assassination was presented to President Johnson.

The Olympics were held in Asia for the first time, in Tokyo, Japan.

The U.S. bombed North Vietnam.

Malcolm X was shot to death in New York.

The Watts riots in Los Angeles broke out and 30 persons were killed.

There was a major electrical power blackout in New York and northeastern U.S.

Jimmy Clark won the Indianapolis 500.

Indiana and other centrally located states experienced the horror of the Palm Sunday Tornados. 47 tornadoes were spawned that day killing 130 people in 20 Indiana counties.

Indonesia became the first country ever to resign from the United Nations.

The Palm Sunday tornadoes, which ransacked Indiana and the Midwest, killed 243 persons.

Cassius Clay beat Sonny Liston and then announced to the world that he would, from then on, be known a Mohammad Ali.

The first close photographs of Mars were taken.

There was a debut of the DC-9 Jetliner and the Learjet.

Color TV made its debut.

The first "Walk in Space" could be viewed on TV.

The biggest pop hit of the year was "The In Crowd" sung by Petula Clark.

Other popular songs were: "Wishin' and Hopin' " sung by Dusty Springfield, "Downtown" sung by Petula Clark, "Stop! In The Name of Love" sung by The Supremes, and "Help Me Rhonda" sung by The Beach Boys.

Sonny and Cher made their debut.

The Beatles visited the United States and made their now famous appearance on the Ed Sullivan TV show.

The newest dance craze was the "Jerk".

Academy Awards:
Best Film: "My Fair Lady"
Best Acctress: Julie Andrews in "Mary Poppins"
Best Actor: Rex Harrison in "My Fair Lady"

Other memorable films of the year were "Goldfinger", "Harlow", and "The Sandpiper".

New TV shows were Get Smart, Hogan's Heroes, Green Acres, The Beverly Hillbillies, I Spy, The Defenders, Shindig, and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. (Does anyone remember what U.N.C.L.E. stands for? Let me know if you do.)

You could buy a hamburger, french fries, and a milk shake for 45 cents at Burger Chef.

Bread was 19 cents, sugar was 11 cents per pound, and best of all, gasoline was 22.3 cents per gallon.

Oh! for those good ol' days!
