Sectional
Scarlet & Black Week

Avidly fervent Pirates began another rivalrous Scarlet and Black Week with posters, displays, and skits. "Pirates Climb at Tourney Time" became the basic theme around which sectional week revolved. Bumper stickers bearing the slogan were found on lockers, notebooks, and bulletin boards.

Scarlet and Black candidates Jay Harrison and Penny Carpenter, seniors, Karen Frazee and Denny Cooper, juniors, Debby Redick and Russ Gilliam, sophomores, and Gayla Caldwell and Greg Sheets, freshmen, pose in front of the sophomore display.

The crowning of seniors Penny Carpenter and Jay Harrison as Miss Scarlet and Mr. Black highlighted the Wednesday pep session.

Joe Snowden plows through mammoth paper caricatures of sectional opponents, portraying room 40's theme, "More Drive in '65".

Steve Moore mimics Mr. Wilson in an "M" Club skit given during an enthusiastic pre-sectional pep session.

Adding vitality to the pep rally were the seventeen walking floats. Mrs. Furnaces's senior home room 37 captured first place with "We're Dragon in a Victory," and home room 40 took second place with their "More Drive in '65".

Green-thumbed seniors make their garden grow out of season to produce a first place display. Second place award went to Pep Club's "Spirit of MHHS."

A blanket of snow ten inches deep caused Scarlet and Black Week to be cut short, but it failed to turn away MHHS fans or to dampen the fiery sectional spirit.
